So eight years ago, I planted a Chardonnay varietal in my side yard of Troutdale, Oregon. I thought, if I cannot afford a vineyard maybe I could start my own plot. It was the perfect place start a small vineyard that I could afford and maintain. The soil was rich and the small rolling hills were perfect for a practice site that could help guide me with through the process of viticulture.

Unfortunately, after a year of planting, I had to move.

After 8 years, I decided to go back to my old home and see how the vines were or if they even existed. I pull up to the home and the vines grew everywhere. I couldn’t believe it. They were completely out of control and beautiful!

I thought to myself, it’s still here! I knocked at the door and informed the Tenant/Owner that I use to reside here 8 years ago and wondered if I could culture the vines  

She was more than happy to share her yard and support me for this journey.

I was so excited! Can you imagine if I was here,  how many beautiful rows of vines I could of trained into a luscious vineyard , which was my goal for a long time.

However, this opportunity would work;  I am continuing to teach myself and learn about Enology and culture a small vineyard.

So now, as Harvest gets closer I am going to make some wine with my very own 8 years old Chardonnay grape. Even if it makes only a half gallon, it’s my own creation and viticulture.

I hope you continue to follow my journey as I go through my first Harvest through Stoney Wines. Just remember, all it takes is a dream and believing in who you are no matter the obstacles. Dreams do come true, even in small package.
